Training Options

The Mentoring Group offers a variety of training options delivered by our certified consultants. Our most requested courses are listed below. To discuss more details, costs, or customizing a program to meet your organization's needs, contact us by e-mail, fax, or phone.

1. General Mentoring Orientation (In-Person)

Need: A group new to mentoring needs basic information on mentoring and how to make it work.

Purpose: To provide an introductory overview of the "new mentoring," ways that mentoring has changed, and the new role of the mentee. Provides general tips for participants to use in formal or informal mentoring relationships. 

Format: Theater/auditorium style; 2 hours; presentation, exercises, video clips, questions and answers, and handout.

2. Combined Mentor-Mentee Training (In-Person)

Need: Mentor-mentee pairs who have been matched require guidelines to manage their partnerships from beginning to end.

Purpose: To help individuals learn how to start and develop productive mentoring relationships. Provides a structured process, an overview of 14 skills, and practice on at least four of the skills. Allows pairs to learn together and begin their planning process.

Format: 3/4-day workshop with materials (charged separately).

3. Mentor Training (In-Person)

Need: Mentors have some ideas about mentoring yet need a proven process and skills to use with mentees.

Purpose: To provide the learning of the Combined Workshop (#2) in a confidential, mentors-only format. Includes a structured process, nine skills, and extensive sharing of best practices and ways to handle challenges.

Format: Half-day (3.5 hour) workshop with materials (charged separately).

4. Mentee Training (In-Person)

Need: Mentees want to learn how to acquire and/or get the most from informal or formal mentors.

Purpose: To provide the content of the Combined Workshop (#2) in a confidential, mentees-only format. Includes a structured process, nine skills, and an in-depth look at managing mentoring relationships. 

Format: Half-day (3.5 hour) workshop with materials (charged separately).

5. Mentor Audio Conference Orientation

Need: A cost-saving alternative for initial preparation of mentors. Useful for mentors in multiple/remote locations.

Purpose: To help managers and individual contributors become more effective mentors in both formal and informal mentoring relationships. 

Format: 2-hour teleconference supplemented with hard copies of materials (charged separately).

6. Mentee Audioconference Orientation

Need: A cost-saving alternative for initial preparation of mentees. Useful for mentees in multiple/remote locations.

Purpose: To help mentees gain awareness about their new roles in mentoring, important mentoring skills, and how to identify goals to work on with mentors. 

Format: 2-hour teleconference supplemented with hard copies of materials (charged separately).

7. How to Design and Implement a Successful Mentoring Initiative

Need: A tested, effective strategy and materials for designing and implementing a formal mentoring initiative.

Purpose: To provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to design and implement an effective mentoring initiative in organizations. Includes key components, critical success factors based upon case examples, assessment of the organization's readiness to start, and initial steps to design an initiative using resources and tools provided. 

Format: Full-day (7.5 hours) workshop with materials (charged separately).
